"This effort reestablishes our commitment to both our students and to building a stronger local workforce. MMC is in the process of joining the National Coalition of Certification Centers, which will allow the college to become a recognized certification center, sponsor more faculty trainers, and broaden the number of industry certifications that it provides.
It’s just the beginning for the college and its larger mission of increased certifications.
The college purchased three industrial Snap-On tool carts with all of the equipment necessary for each industry certification.

The modules earn students certifications from Snap-on like micrometer measurement, ShopKey Pro Service and Repair, and slide caliper measurement. The trio is now credentialed to teach almost 20 modules. Three MMC faculty members traveled to Wisconsin, completing train-the-trainer certifications for Snap-On tools. "Employers are looking for candidates that have a proven record of success, and our students’ résumés will demonstrate that they have mastered the most important skills for their chosen career." That means that they get a job in their field or they get a better job because of what we taught them," says Shawn Troy, MMC’s Dean of Workforce and Career Education. "We want to ensure that we’re setting students up to succeed. The move comes as part of the college’s larger goal to increase the amount of practical certifications offered for skilled trades students. Industry certifications will be available in MMC’s automotive, HRA (Heating, Refrigeration, Air Conditioning), and manufacturing technology (AIM) programs. For those looking to join the workforce or further their place in it, Mid Michigan College will be offering industry certifications beginning fall semester of 2018.
